Project Kick-Off Meeting.

Project Name:

Resolving Land and Family Conflicts: A Rights-Based Approach to Social Harmony in Baidoa District Southwest State of Somalia.

Project Summary.

The project, Resolving Land and Family Conflicts: A Rights-Based Approach to Social Harmony, seeks to address the recurring disputes related to land ownership and family conflicts in Baidoa District through inclusive, community-led, and rights-based mechanisms. Rooted in the principles of justice, gender equality, and conflict prevention, the project aims to reduce tensions and violence by strengthening local dispute resolution frameworks, promoting legal awareness, and fostering peaceful co-existence.

The intervention will bring together traditional elders, women leaders, youth groups, religious scholars, civil society actors, and local authorities to collectively develop and apply peaceful dispute resolution strategies that respect human rights and uphold customary and statutory laws. The project will offer targeted capacity building, inclusive dialogues, legal aid services, and community awareness campaigns.

KAHRDO will implement the project using a participatory and inclusive approach that builds community trust and ownership, and that contributes to sustainable peace and social harmony. This initiative is particularly critical in the post-conflict and climate-affected context of Baidoa, where resource competition and weakened family structures have contributed to growing tension and vulnerability.
