Capacity Building Training of Trainers (TOT) on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Standards for State and Federal Police – Baidoa District, South West State

@Kalkal Human, in partnership with UNTMIS, successfully conducted a three-day Capacity Building Training of Trainers (TOT) on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Standards for State and Federal Police officers in Baidoa District, South West State. The training brought together 15 carefully selected participants—9 from the State Police and 6 from the Federal Police—with the aim of strengthening their understanding of human rights principles, IHL standards, and their practical application in policing operations.

Over the course of the training, participants engaged in interactive sessions, case studies, and group discussions, sharing experiences from their fieldwork and identifying strategies to integrate human rights and IHL principles into daily policing practices. A total of 50 training manuals and handouts were distributed to support continued learning and dissemination of knowledge within their respective units.

The training also emphasized the role of participants as trainers, equipping them with the skills to cascade this knowledge to colleagues and promote a culture of respect for human rights across both State and Federal Police structures in the Baidoa District. By the end of the program, participants demonstrated a strong understanding of the subject matter and expressed readiness to implement and share the knowledge, contributing to improved policing practices and enhanced compliance with international standards in the region.
