Highlighting Economic Violence During #16DaysOfActivism

During the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, @Kalkalhuman conducted vital awareness campaigns among internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Baidoa. These initiatives aimed to highlight the serious and often overlooked impact of economic violence on survivors.

Key Focus of the Campaign:

  • Understanding Economic Violence: We educated community members about how economic violence manifests, including withholding financial resources, denying access to education or employment, and controlling financial decision-making. These practices can leave survivors trapped in cycles of dependency and vulnerability.
  • Empowering Survivors: By raising awareness, we provided IDPs with information on their rights and available resources, enabling them to seek help and reclaim their autonomy.
  • Community Engagement: Our campaigns facilitated discussions that fostered solidarity and support among survivors. By creating a safe space for dialogue, we encouraged participants to share experiences and strategies for overcoming economic barriers.

Call to Action:

Now more than ever, it’s crucial to advocate for policies and programs that address economic violence as a form of gender-based violence. We call on community leaders, individuals, and organizations to unite in combating this issue and support survivors in rebuilding their lives.

Together, we can work towards a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive without the threat of economic violence.
