KAHRDO Condemns Killing of Civilians in Aricadeeye and Calls for Accountability and Justice

@kalkalhuman strongly condemns the killing of above 21 civilians in Ari-Adeeye, North East of Somalia, describing the incident as a grave violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

This tragic incident represents a serious breach of fundamental legal protections, including Article 3 common to the Geneva Conventions (1949), Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and Article 4 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, all of which affirm the inherent right to life and strictly prohibit arbitrary deprivation of life under any circumstances.

The deliberate or unlawful killing of civilians is unacceptable and undermines the principles of humanity, dignity, and protection that are at the core of international law. Such acts not only cause immense suffering to families and communities but also weaken prospects for peace, stability, and reconciliation.

KAHRDO calls for an immediate, independent, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident to establish the facts, identify those responsible, and ensure that justice is served. Accountability is essential to prevent further violations and to uphold the rule of law.

We further urge all relevant authorities and stakeholders to strengthen the protection of civilians in conflict-affected areas, in full compliance with international humanitarian and human rights obligations. Civilian lives must always be safeguarded, and all necessary measures must be taken to prevent recurrence of such violations.

KAHRDO remains committed to advocating for justice, accountability, and the protection of human rights for all civilians affected by conflict across Somalia.
